Wrapping up the Dunderheads

We finished up our tour of The Misadventures of the Dunderheads" last Thursday in Charleston.  At all seven of our stops (also including Suwannee, Madison, Montgomery. Gallitin, Baton Rouge, Tupelo), each and every person from the venue partners were gracious, helpful, forthcoming and committed.

We were able to stop in and say hello to the hard-working crew at South Arts in Atlanta.  Although they were all swamped actually running the thing, they took out a good deal of time to greet us and tell us a little more about the history of the Southern Circuit.

At every screening we had the pleasure of meeting and talking with audience members who were moved by our film.  I hope to fill in some details in future posts.

The Capri Theater needs your help

"Misadventures of the Dunderheads" played the Capri Theater in Montgomery Thursday, March 21. This is a beautiful and good sized theater in the Art Moderne style popular in 1941 when it is was built. Martin who runs it gave Bruce and our Assoc. Producer, Janellen, a wonderful tour of Montgomery, including the state capitol buildings and all the strangely wonderful and unusual that only a native knows.
The Capri desperately needs to put in digital cinema projection equipment. 35mm film prints are only going to be produced in this country for about another year. Since the Capri is an art house theater (the only one in the Montgomery area, maybe as far as I know the State of Alabama) and a non-profit they have started a Kickstarter program to raise the money to convert their projection room to digital. You can access it here:

Please contribute!

After our screening, a local psychologist and trauma counselor, stayed around to talk about how well the issues of abuse are documented in the story of "Misadventures....". We find we get a lot of interest and acclaim from professionals who deal with abuse and trauma when they see the film. This is one of the joys of fiction art film. People can enjoy a dramatic comedy "story" and at the same time learn something about life since the depiction of the psychology and behavior is uncannily accurate.

As Picasso said: "Art is the lie which reveals the Truth."

The Dunderheads 2013 Tour has begun on the Southern Circuit

It's good to be back in the South!
I love the courtesy and beautiful speech patterns.
Woke up this morning after arriving at 10:30 last night and getting to bed at 2:00 AM.
Midnight dinner at "Steak and Shakes".  We decided it was too late for one of the delicious looking
shakes, but the warm hospitality from the waitresses for a couple of tired, addled looking travelers
was a great welcome to Georgia
Bruce Stubblefield, the Producer of "Misadventures"  got up early to go to the Movie Tavern theater
in Suwanee to set the sound, color etc. with the projections on our Blu-ray so we can have the best possible
screening tonight.  A film producers job is like Mom's,  "never done."
In the weeks before our arrival, we've been communing by email and facebook with many of our Southern Circuit venues.  People are excited about seeing the film.
There is a genuine hunger in this country to see independent films when people are given a chance to see them and that makes the intense struggle to make them seem worthwhile.
There would be basically no filmmaking on an artistic and informative level without the participation of
the audience.  It takes both sides to create this special experience.
