New opportunity for Southern filmmakers with short films!

Southern Arts Federation is now accepting film submissions for the Short Circuit - Tour of Short Films. Please, share this announcement with any filmmakers you know who may be interested.

Short Circuit - Tour of Short Films is a companion program to the Southern Circuit. Short Circuit spotlights outstanding short films (under 45 minutes) by filmmakers living in Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, and Tennessee.

Short films selected for the 2007-2008 Short Circuit tour will serve as the “opening acts” for the filmmakers touring on the 2007-2008 Southern Circuit - Tour of Independent Filmmakers. The short films selected for this tour will be seen by audiences in communities throughout the South.

Filmmakers whose work is selected for the 2007-2008 Short Circuit will receive a $200 honorarium. In return, these filmmakers agree to participate in the Southern Circuit blog and podcast interviews to further promote the tour and to engage online audiences in discussion of the films.

SOUTHERN CIRCUIT - TOUR OF INDEPENDENT FILMMAKERS

Early Deadline: Feb. 15, 2007; Standard Deadline: Mar. 15, 2007; Late Deadline: Mar. 30, 2007
Southern Circuit provides independent filmmakers living in the United States with the paid opportunity to tour throughout the Southeastern U.S. screening their work for new audiences and engaging those audiences in discussions about the work and its creation.

Filmmakers selected for the 2007-2008 Southern Circuit will receive:
* A $300 fee for each screening on the tour. Total screening fees average between $1,800 and $2,400.
* Paid travel expenses (domestic airfare and car rental) for the tour.
* Per diem for meals and lodging expenses.
In return, selected filmmakers will agree to:
* Travel to designated venues throughout the Southeastern United States over a 10-day period.
* Present a screening from approximately 45 - 150 minutes in length. Filmmakers may submit multiple works to comprise a screening time that fits within this window.
* Engage audiences in a 30-minute post-screening discussion of the work, their filmmaking process, and their lives as artists.
* Participate in program-related events coordinated by the host venues on the tour, such as private dinners, public receptions, etc.
* Participate in the Southern Circuit blog and podcast interviews to further promote the tour.
